Dominical, Costa Rica's South Pacific Coast
Dominical is the kind of place that doesn’t try hard. A small surf town on the Pacific, three hours from San José, backed by rainforest and faced with open ocean. The beach draws surfers. The jungle draws everyone else.
River Soul sits right on the Barú River, a few minutes from the center of town. Nauyaca Waterfalls is a 15-minute drive. Marino Ballena National Park, home to the Whale’s Tail and some of the best whale watching in Central America, is 20 minutes south. Hacienda Barú Wildlife Refuge, with scarlet macaws and guided night walks, is 10 minutes north. Manuel Antonio is an easy day trip, 45 minutes up the coast.
There’s plenty to do here. There’s also plenty of reason to do nothing.
